It is more a hybrid of the paths Cray and the Transputer has taken. The heavy graphics tasks are pretty well parallizable, like 3D manipulation, rendering, vector analysis for your movie codec of choice, etc. At least up to the ~50 processor mark. The software may need to be written; but parts of it like 3d and render farms already exist. This is for the people that want fast, pretty pictures. Transaction systems on databases are similar. This is for the people that want fast databases. Every person wanting to send a few hundred thousand invoices are among these. These same people usually carry a lot of commercial oompf. winscape 2366 This is exactly what I am erferring to. It is stage two in a development that first outbid all the other architectures in terms of throwing process improvements on the x86, and... I really don't see hope for the desktop. It is getting ossified. I see the future in gadgets, consoles and the servers they need. These will absorb the processing power they can get. I think Bill Gates agree with me. When watching his moves in the past there has been a clear path; watch his actions, not his words. Now he has been doing the games consoles for a few years while others are set to the task of milking the PeeCee market for as long as it lasts. -- mrr
