This is exactly what I am erferring to. It is stage two in a development that first outbid all the other architectures in terms of throwing process improvements on the x86, and then ended as the only game in town.

So, yes, when the x86 runs out of steam, the whole market does. But other stuff than x86 may have use for some backtracking and re-use of those process improvements.

Parallellizaion is the only route for oomph in the current environment.

It will need a lot of work to handle those cpus. The readers of this newsgroup are aware of the dragons that lie in such cache designs.

Microsoft has always been hedging their bets; I have always seen "plan B" in their designs. Now they, as all of us, are stuck with the x86. I wouldn't be surprised to see a windows port to an architecture that may sidestep the current x86 problems.

And, even if MS windows is not the best parallizing architecture there is, it is not the worst either. And the applications will follow the performers.

So, if someone builds a PC like this, and it delivers the juice the market will come.

The big question is if it delivers.
