women in computing again: sortingWho is the woman who programmed a video chat system? Usenet was mostly done by guys. I know a few women who admin, but the code cutting was done by geeky friends. I don't believe the issue is that guys like to work alone. We like to work with specific personality traits in people which are not part of the general public.
I think there is some expectation of certain more highly regarded breastles and jobs. Like EE, or management names. And similarly how people view "home maker" or house wife. etc. Programming started as "women" work. Most computers were women. Here is where Adm. Grace came in. In the paper literature you can go back to before Levy's Hackers which noted few women at MIT (when it and Caltech were guys only). Go to Weizenbaum which only noted guys (leaving women out). But also, you should ask the systers mailing list for an extensive refer. on this perception. Oh she's not that bad. It predates her by decades. I just saw an 1957ish paper on the topic yesterday in the UK. If you need tha paper reference I need to go back into the stacks to look it up. Ask first and I will go back and get it, I have better things to search for. women in computing again: sorting 3964 On the contrary. She's a f***ing idiot. She never missed dis'ing math and anybody who does it. Since... Women making up have the population in colleges only happened in the last couple of decades. Just think of what that does to insecure guys. And this says nothing of the race card. --
