Airport Security Faster *Without* ID 2685Airport Security Faster *Without* ID 2686 Deuteros It doesn't. But it's an FAA requirement that all pbuttengers be identified. I don't know who came up with that government-issued photo ID bullpoo, but...
Maybe you haven't tried this since the round of changes they put in place following 9-11. The last time I opened a bank account online, I was required to provide the number from either a state ID or US pbuttport. Ironically, while you need government ID to open a checking or savings account, you can get a credit card with just a social security number. SSNs are practically public information now, so this makes credit card fraud so easy it's nuts. Only pre-paid service. Sometimes. Other times, places are quite unreasonable about it. My father, who's in his 60s, got carded buying beer at a grocery store a couple of weeks ago. Most of these things (I have serious doubts about the bank account) probably can be done without an ID... but it's just buttumed you've got one, and if you don't, you might have to try a few different places to get what you want, or demand to speak to managers, or whatever. I don't drive, so the only government photo ID I have is a pbuttport, which I don't usually carry around with me (since it won't fit in a wallet)... so I run into this kind of thing every now and then. I should probably stop being lazy and just go get a state photo ID card. -- "Those who enter the country illegally violate the law." -- George W. Bush in Tucson, Ariz., Nov. 28, 2005
