That's not the point. The point is that "officially" we wanted them. We had a big, empty country to fill. There weren't many (if any) "illegal" aliens in those days. Each was processed as he stepped ashore. If the country didn't want the Irish, they would have been officially excluded by the government. The Chinese WERE excluded, in fact there was a Chinese Exclusion Act pbutted by Congress that was, essentially in effect until the Immigration Act of 1965 (IMHO the single most destructive and damaging piece of of legislature in US history) when it was superceded.
If that what it takes to secure our borders, that's what it takes. We have to be ready to shoot people who violate our border, hopefully, we won't actually have to do it...
We have immigrant quotas in this country and those illegals pouring across our southern border are in violation of those quotas. We simply have to stop it and repatriate all illegals.
No. Its the reason to send them back. If you acommodate them you simply encourage more to come here. You're letting your liberalism work against your own long-term best interest. We simply don't need any more people.
I didn't say that this was their reason, I sad this was the RESULT. Anyway, it needs to be stopped and all the illegal aliens here...
I don't think that these people should be criminalized, but they do need to be discouraged from coming here. I'm just not terribly sure how to do it. I suspect we need an "iron curtain" accross all but official crossing points. I hate to see it come to that, but Mexico won't help - in fact they encourage illegal aliens to go to the US. It brings dollars into Mexico. We've got to do it unilaterally.
