Apple Continues To Condemn The Mac To Niche Machine 3168
It's not even close: Apple Continues To Condemn The Mac To Niche Machine 3169 Then why are their commercials always comparing Macs to PCs? No these are overpriced novelty machines. That's why they still have poor share. The only product they can compete with are laptops as laptops... 1. It's $80.00 more (dual processor model). 2. It has half the HD, 80GB versus 160GB. 3. Lower quality video. 4. Lacks keyboard, mouse, and display. 5. Lacks the expansion flexibility of the Dell. The lower cost model: 1. Is single core. 2. Has a 60GB HD versus 160GB. 3. Lacks DVD writing capability. 4. Lower quality video. 5. Lacks keyboard, mouse, and display. 6. Lacks the expansion flexibility of the Dell. Does this make the Mini a bad system? Certainly not. Both of these systems would meet the needs to many users. But then, so could the entry level Dell for $650.00. No they don't. Which brings me back to the very first sentence I Apple Continues To Condemn The Mac To Niche Machine 3170 Like you? Yes it is when compared to PCs in the same performance-features clbutt. Lots of overpriced things can sell to people brainwashed like Mac users are brainwashed. Russian economics is capitalism with a... "You're missing the point." The point is by electing not to sell to this market, and I'm not saying that Apple is wrong for choosing not to, they are condemning the Mac to be a niche machine (as the OP wrote). No matter what the technical merits of OS X or the Macintosh may be if Apple chooses not to sell to a particular market segment they have only to blame for the small market share. My opinion is that there is a significant demand for computers configured similar to the Dell and that Apple could sell a lot of them. Josh
