No these are overpriced novelty machines. That's why they still have poor share. The only product they can compete with are laptops as laptops are all proprietary.
It is when you can get an equal PC for about $700 less and that PC will have space for internal HDs and DVDs. Here's where you save the money in another area. Pretty soon there are going to be Blue-Ray and HD DVDs burners for sale. How will you easily get one in a Mac? Most folk will buy an external drive and that will cause desk clutter. Then they want more storage space so they buy an external HD. That takes up more desk space and it's a lot slower than an internal IDE or SATA drive. You're losing the novelty of the thing and money.

Yea Apple has been asleep at the wheel when it comes to certain things. People are not going to pay a premium to run OS X when so many good things are available for Windows. It's just not practical. However there is a niche group with a lot of money who will buy everything Apple puts out because they're brainwashed into thinking that Macs are just plain better.
