Apple ahead of schedule 3134
The whole idea of Adobe leaving the Mac is ludicrous. Given what I suspect the platform sales breakdown for Creative Suite looks like, Adobe is probably about as likely to leave Windows. This kind of thinking is part of the damage resulting from the fact that practically the only market data regularly available to the general public is nearly meaningless overall "personal computer" market share numbers. The truth is, there isn't one single market here, there are many. The Mac plays a major role (and is even the dominant platform) in some of them, and is virtually (or in some cases completely) absent in others. Professional desktop publishing, a rather important market for Adobe, happens to be one the markets where the Mac is the dominant platform. It would actually probably be slightly more reasonable for Adobe to buttume its Windows customers for Creative Suite (who are mostly less demanding corporate users, or web developers who don't have to worry as much about things like correct color and print output) would follow the product to the Mac, than to buttume its significantly more demanding Mac user base would follow it to Windows. Apple ahead of schedule 3135 There'll be less of that. These transitions also make the market less attractive for a vendor to get into. snip I think... snip -- "Those who enter the country illegally violate the law." -- George W.
