Thing is, it's not just Photoshop. AppleScript is used as part of multi-application workflows which would be a huge hbuttle to recreate on another platform.
The DTP industry is absurdly conservative, though. It took most shops three or four years to move to OS X. So, you'd need a gap *at least* that long where Windows was *clearly* the superior platform for DTP before you'd even *start* to see some migration. And it looks like in the real world, the gap will be less than a year, and Windows won't be the clearly superior platform.
Meh. Talk to a print shop about this. A real one, not a Kinkos.
There are Creative Suite users on Windows, yes, but I strongly suspect the print users on Windows are more oriented toward internal corporate communications, printed on color laser printers, where it's not a big deal to run off a bunch of test prints, and if the colors aren't exactly right it doesn't matter.
Real press proofs take some time to turn around, and can cost quite a bit because you're doing an entire production press setup to run off just a couple of copies of something. If you can get it right the first time, it saves huge amounts of trouble.
That is, I'm afraid, not all that conservative by the standards of IT. :D If the gap is less than a year, then Adobe should still have a big userbase left...
I'm pretty sure developers working with Windows server technologies probably would find it rather inconvenient to run Photoshop on another operating system, and would therefore run it on Windows even if it ran a bit better on another platform.
Like pretty much all of it. Yes. They say they have fewer issues with Mac-originated...
Given the time frame involved, I feel pretty confident saying there won't be any measurable impact. Particularly since even if some users do feel a need to run Photoshop on Windows for the fastest possible performance, they can do so on Apple hardware and then switch back to running it on OS X as soon as the universal version ships.
