Even a 6-month transition could see a small shift, but it might be lost in the noise.

Still, I don't think such a short transition is likely for Photoshop.

Ah. This is the standard lock-in schtick. :D snip Hmm. I do not see any difference between Windows and OS X here...

Sounds like conventional compatibility problems; your 'real' print shops are, I guess, usings Macs themselves.

Maybe the Kinko's use Windows, which is why you don't want to talk to them about this. :D

Well, I just checked, and this laptop didn't come with a color profile for its LCD. So not all the hardware has that stuff.

But if hardware support is not lacking, what is?

IOW, you can claim it'll happen with no fear of being proven wrong. Often this isn't the case, actually. Digital production presses...

If it's just that Adobe's users are nervous about PCs, well, they may be: but if that nervousness has no basis in fact, it will make rather less of a difference.

It can, but there are some serious problems with that. One is that it obviously isn't available on the Mac, which is the standard platform in this industry, which can make it difficult...

snip

Aren't you talking about GIMP users, though?

No; XP Pro has IIS in there. You can do it, but MS's development tools support less disciplined "just edit the production website" type stuff too.

I'd expect that anyone with the discipline to use proper deployment would not ask their graphics designers to build websites also.

Yes, that is so. Demos are of course *real* purpose of most of the software we write :D.

But it is becoming clear to me that you are thinking of Photoshop not as a graphics designer's tool, but as a web developers tool.

Viewed that way, what you are saying makes more using Photoshop to do it Mac OS X is your best choice even if it is slow as molbuttes.

I had always thought that there was more of a separation of roles here, because most programmers are terrible artists. But there are exceptions, and therefore there must be a segment of the market that would acutally buy an Intel Mac, precisely to run PPC Photoshop on it.

Still, I can't help but wonder how large it could be.

snip

If it's late Q2, that's about 2 years from the Intel annoucement, and 1 year from the shipping of the Mac Pro.

But it's still quite a good performance on Adobe's part, if they manage it.
