Apple knows better; you will observe that during the keynote Steve brought up developer adoption of Intel too.

Sure, you can talk about individual parts of the transition, but it's not "pretty impressive" to have one initial bit of the transition done. Especially considering the troubles they've had managing the laptop end of this so far.

I did not say "every current Mac user"; they can settle for most of them. During the keynote, Steve pointed out that they've acheived this for the Mac OS X transition. The importance of this is not lost on Apple.

They continue to support legacy code and files and even junk because it's very important to users and developers that they should do this.

Microsoft, nevertheless, does make "big jumps" from time to time.

Microsoft did need to transition from their old, real-mode OS to an all-singing, all-dancing modern one- and they did, very slowly. They didn't refuse to change. And that transition is over now.

Microsoft did not need to abandon PowerPC but they did need to transition from real mode to 16 bit protected mode, and then to 32-bit protected mode. They managed that too, and that transition is also over.

And these transitions are really over; users and developers are all on the new platform.

Edwin I don't recall what the dates were to know. All I know is that what Apple makes now is by...

They are now moving to a 64-bit ISA. That transition is by no means over just because 64-bit Windows has been available for a few years now. Microsoft won't rush it. But it will happen in time.
