I agree. That particular ad is not realistic. Most certainly iLife runs rings around anything Microsoft bundle. But they should have made that clear by putting the MS bundled stuff on...

Huh? How do you crop a photo in Windows? How do you change the hue or contrast? How do you make a slide...

Mitch Your missing my point entirely, I never said Windows apps were better than apple apps, well...

Yeah, as I stated earlier, valid point.

But oh Mike, why don't you check whether your statements are factual?

Well, having a slacker say he is a Mac is not very elitist or snobby. But certainly the ads have an element of that atbreastude. But when you say:

...you are quite wrong. Mac market share started its plunge in 1996 when Apple was hit by the ramifications of having $1 BILLION in unwanted Performa Macs rotting in a warehouse. The losses they sustained turned into a vampiric hay-day for the press who wanted Apple dead. The public thought bad press meant something was wrong with Macs, which was ridiculous, but we are dealing with human perception, not intelligence. Thanks to the iMac circa 2000 the bloodletting at Apple began to stop and the decline in market share slowed to a halt.

Market share began to grow again in 2003. G R O W . The growth has not stopped. In 2004 the market share was up from about 2% to 2.4%. The current market share is unclear, but it is over 3%. A couple reliable sources have said 4%. One unreliable source said 5%.

I know this myth about Mac market share is going to live on. But I will continue to do my best to set the record straight.

-- Fortune Magazine, 11-29-05: What's your computer setup today? Frederick Brooks: I happily use a Macintosh. It's not been equalled for ease of use, and I want my computer to be a tool, not a challenge. Frederick Brooks is the author of 'The Mythical Man Month'. He spearheaded the movement to modernize computer software engineering in 1975
