Comparing these MACS 26
Not so. Apple has promised to provide parallel OSes for PPC and Intel based Macs until at least 2012, and the apps will be dual binaries until at least then as well. if you need the speed of a dual two core G5, then by all means buy it with impunity. First of all, here, today, few programs are Intel native. Nothing from Adobe, or Microsoft has been ported to the Intel Macs yet and there are lots of other developers in the same boat. If you need to get work done using any Mac software not yet ported to Intel, then I strongly suggest that you stick with the G5 PPC towers for a while. To buy Intel would be to run these apps in emulation under Rosetta and take a speed hit so huge as to more than negate the advantage of having a dual-core Intel processor. Who knows, Mike might be right about the fire sale. The only Macs left not already transistioned to the new processor are the towers. That's got to happen any day. When it does, one might be able to get a deal on a remaindered Dual 2-core PPC machine (and make no mistake, they ARE fast). Comparing these MACS 27 Oh, I dunno. Pre PPC software runs even today under Clbuttic. I use a program called MacEnvelopes that hasn't been updated since 1988. It still runs, and I still use it.
