Comparing these MACS 28
But this is an example of Apple's poor backward compatibility. I realize it had to be done, as there's no way Intel Macs are going to run PPC OSes and apps, but consider this: Windows NT was released in 1993. Can you imagine the bad press (and howls of laughter here) if, by 1998, MS dropped support for 16 bit Windows apps? This is the equivalent of Macs no longer running OS 9 and apps - it's only been 5 years. OTOH, Vista can *still* run DOS stuff from 1983! Exactly what software from 1983 can today's Mac run? Lisa stuff? Apple 2 stuff? Apple 3 stuff? Mind you, I understand the differences involved here - market sizes, business vs. home users, etc., etc. I personally don't use anything DOS these days - and haven't for about 10 years. But I'm sure there are many small businesses (and departments in large businesses) that depend on some odd old piece of software. Dell Laptop Explodes at conference 1. They don't claim that it was on fire at the time they took it outside. 2. If that wasn't the case, what do you think happens... With Windows, the option to continue to run yesteryear's stuff is there. With Apple, maybe not. Mike
