I just downloaded the newest version of Ubuntu and burned it. I tried it by booting...

I don't like Corey Doctorow because I don't like Boing Boing, as they seem to promote themselves and their friends way too much. Well, I guess that's to be expected somewhat, as it's a blog after all, but hey, I don't like blogs either unless they're useful, such as lambda the ultimate, now that's a great blog.

Anyhow, that out of the way. Back in 2002 it became clear to me that I prefer linux over Mac OS X. I then sold my mac. True, Mac OS X had just been released back then and was unstable, sluggish, and had not much software, but still, I found that I was mostly using OSS. I had the aching feeling that all i wanted was to download the software I liked, which was all linux software, and fink came to the rescue. Why would someone who prefers linux still want to remain with a mac? No idea. Pretty hardware yes, but overpriced and underpowered. GUI candy? Bah!

I think the new ubuntu is a nice OS. Linux as a whole these days seems a more viable option for the user who doesn't require a Mac only application. There's an incredible amount of software and an incredible amount of documentation for linux on the web and in print. In fact, it's even starting to seem that it's stolen the limelight from windows, most of the interesting stuff is happening on Linux.
