Can't quite win that way, although it's nice to have options. :-)

A third method is to mount a bicycle on top of the generator and cut one's power usage way down and exercise at the same time. This isn't horribly practical for most people but works for exercise equipment. :-)

As things stand, it may depend on one's applications as to whether one is using Windows, Linux, FreeBSD, MacOSX, or HURD (well, OK, maybe not HURD -- yet). Many vendors will port to multiple OSes, and with Java all of them -- except maybe for HURD again but someone's presumably working on it -- are supported by the JVM.

In the US. Europeans tend to view these things slightly differently (220-240 V, 50 Hz in many locales). Of course, that's a side issue.
