One doesn't "scheme to make a buck" off of global warming by investing in basic climate research, Mayor. One does so by e.g. investing in alternative energy sources. And many people are, in fact, doing just that. For instance: - GE recently announced plans to spend $1.5B on alternative energy R&D by 2010. Investing in basic research could... - AES Corporation, major energy company, plans to spend $1B over the next three years. - BP announced last year that it would double its investment in alternative energy, to some $1.8 over three years. They expect their low-carbon power business to deliver revenues of $6B-year within a decade. There are also now numerous mutual funds, index funds, venture capital firms, etc. which target the alternative energy market.
