Gore Fest 387
Well, I'm afraid this writer is correct. Whether GW is a real man-made phenomenon or is merely part of a natural cycle after a millenium of being on the cool side, There is little we can do about it. If it is man-made, we need to stop burning hydrocarbons. And not just the first world. We need to stop the third world from burning down rainforests, and burning wood for heat and cooking. We need to stop burning oil and coal for power and we need to retire the internal combustion engine - completely. Unfortunately The only energy source with any hope of getting us out of the woods on this issue would be nuclear using breeder reactors. But Jimmy Carter, afraid of nuclear weapons proliferation, had them outlawed and regular nuke plants create too much waste. Fusion is decades away, if we can figure it out at all, and the other sources of electricity and heating, solar, wind, therma, etc., are too localized and merely stopgap measures at best. We're just going to have to live with it. Gore Fest 388 Not many would argue that global warming is NOT occurring. What is very much in debate is... Look on the bright side. More Canadian and Scandinavian chicks wearing bikinis! -- George Graves The health of our society is a direct result of the men and women we choose to admire.
