Help with odd failure to burn data CDsWe recently started having this problem burning CDs on our g3 iMac (a slot-loading 700MH) running 10.2. Before this everything just worked. Burning in the usual way--dragging files to the CD in the finder and burning--used to work, but now fails partway through. A dialog then informs us that the CD is not readable and gives the choice of ignoring or ejecting it. The CD becomes essentially dead and unreadable. Here Comes More FUD: McAfee's Attack &A#JD1Tg!d8 What idiot at McAfee is in charge of their marketing? I can't think of a better way to turn off Mac... I thought perhaps my CD burner had died, but there's more to this. The last time this happened I was surprised to find that after I'd ejected the dead CD, it remained mounted as a volume at the computer level of the file hierarchy--where you would expect to find it were the disk still readable and in the CD slot. Sorta OT: New song up, "Theme From Kresky" as usual, made on a Mac One of my favorite web sites is a labour of love by Timothy Madison, who has elaborately put together everything you ever wanted to know about his favorite late... This volume contained all the files I'd tried to burn. I was then able to make a disk image of this volume, and burn the image to another CD. The phantom volume did not persist after rebooting. Obviously, this is hardly an ideal process. What is going on? Does this volume exist somehow in RAM? And finally, how can I get things to work normally? Thanks for your help and ideas! -- Please reply to the usenet group.
