Here Comes More FUD: McAfee's Attack &A#JD1Tg!d8

What idiot at McAfee is in charge of their marketing? I can't think of a better way to turn off Mac users than to LIE to them, spreading Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt (FUD). I am to the point where I am ashamed to say I use their Virex anti-virus software. At least I can say I got it for free with DotMac.

In the previous thread "Here Comes The FUD" someone pointed out news regarding McAfee's white paper "The New Apple of Malware's Eye: Is Mac OS X the Next Windows?"

I thought the basic concept of this white paper was nuts, but now that folks are reading it, the details turn out to be more inane than I had imagined:

Switching back to Windows &A#JD1Tg!d8
Score again for Mike. Amazing. Thanks to the arrival of hardware enabled virtualization for Macintel, you can run Windows, and any other x86 OS, right along side Mac OS X at a reasonable speed (versus...

You can download the PDF of the offending dump McAfee has dropped on the Mac community at:

Here are some choice quotes from the VnuNet article about this FUD attack:

Intel Macs vulnerable to 'chip-level' threats. Chip-level attacks target a vulnerability in the processor rather than the software. Tom Sanders in California, 22 May 2006

Some points of interest here:

1) There is NO BIOS in Macintels, dammit! Why is it buttumed by just about everyone that Macs inherited the stupid old BIOS technology?! Macintels use EFI firmware. E - F - I . Got it?

2) This FUD attack is based on some ancient attack that happened with some antiquated Intel CPU from way back when.

3) Macs have had firmware, like PCs, from day one. NEVER has a Mac had a malware attack on its firmware. Just because Apple moved to a different firmware system does not equate to any greater danger than they ever had!

4) There is an inference here that putting Intel CPUs into Mac has something to do with Macs being susceptible to Windows PC malware, past or present or future. This is an outright STUPID argument. It was STUPID when that idiot Dvorak first said it last year, and it will be STUPID when the last wintroll says it with his dying breath.

ATTENTION FUD MONGERS: Liars are losers.
