WHY? Why single out Apple for this expectation? It isn't as though a $1000 computer is your largest purchase for the decade. It isn't even an industry that is singled out for philanthropy. Why not demand that housing manufacturers make huge donations? I don't see anyone I recognize in that industry, and it is apparently making huge amounts of money and making life and the future difficult for many. How about the music industry, or the movie industry, or the auto industry? They don't seem to be hugely represented there. How about the love industry? Manufacturing? Import-Export? Petroleum? I'm totally with you on the idea that our purchases reflect our values, and everything really does matter. But if you insist on demanding this from one industry and not others, your message and purpose is lost -- it's much too arbitrary, and the people making decisions can't deal with arbitrary. Avoid companies with clearly negative reputations, and avoid companies with very visible opinions you disagree with. THAT is likely to be recognized for what it is.
