That's true. They should be selling it to anyone that will buy. Then Microsoft would pull the plug on Office though, and Apple probably doesn't think it's worth the risk. Of course, if they put 10 million or so into NeoOffice (which would be cheap compared to writing one from scratch) they could really put MS in an interesting position.

I say really bad PR move apple.

If the above is *really* why they are closing it down, they could have left 98% of it still open. The real question is one of legality. Is it theirs to close? What was the original license under the covers from the code base they took to get started?

I think it's just a case of concentrating their energies where they are successful. You need a solid base to operate from, before you worry about chasing...
