Is the Mac a PC 2583

These are good points, but I'd like to show some differences:

It is most definitely a Macintosh, because it embodies EVERYTHING that Macintosh has always meant -- quality hardware, quality package, uses Mac OS. It is only people who think 'Macintosh' meant 'being different from everything else' that believe something has changed. It hasn't -- what is being offered is EXACTLY what being Mac has always meant.

ZnU If it's not native, it's not a clone, it's an emulator. The compatibility test is about how well the hardware is a clone of the original...

Not exactly -- it emphasizes how much a modern Mac is similar to other machines, it does NOT emphasize that Mac has lost anything or become less Macintosh. In other words, the problem is that people keep looking at it inside-out. Macs are everything they have always been -- there may be fewer real differences, but there is NOTHING less in the Mac offering.

That's right -- and that's why the old term 'clone' just doesn't mean what it did back then. It isn't IBM's architecture that determines anyone's compatibility -- it's compatibility with Windows that defines the PC world. Microsoft is in charge -- that's such a completely different angle that the old terms just HAVE to be avoided!
