Umm I have a copy of Windows 1.00 and the only usable thing in it was the calulator. GEM thrashed it badly.

A PC that could run Windows at the time ran about 7500.00 USD compared to a Commodore at around 700.00 USD. So I can't see how you can say it drove prices down.

Unless you mean the freebee years with Win 3.1 when GEOS was thrashing Windows and Bill&Co. needed to under cut the market.

At that time a PC with color was like 2100.00 USD about the price of three Commodore PCs.

Besides pretty much all price savings in the commodity PC world have come from hardware.

Windows has always added to PC costs, compare the pricing at pricewatch and educate yourself.

Why would you consider switching to a Mac as starting over? Besides, even a Windows addict can run Vista on Mac hardware now...

All of that aside M$ not only has to overcome costs but has to push new content-copy protection up the collective buttes on M$ consumers like yourself.
