While it may not help you, I have found that it certainly helps me. In fact, whenever I start getting the beachball, I repair permissions on my Mac volume, and the beachball stops spinning. It has never harmed my installation of OS X, and it certainly helps to keep it running smoothly. Anyway, I put it on the plate for new users, to help them out, not "know-it-alls", like yerself. If it doesn't suit your diet, don't pick it up off the plate. I wouldn't know. I have no idea what the "base files" are, since I never get that deeply into the file structure. In fact, I don't WANT to know what the "base files" are. I mean, there are thousands of 'em, just as there are for Windows. I have no desire to get on a personal level with each one, and make love to 'em. I just want 'em to work as they should. I know what works for me.
