sounds like ol' Tom is engaging in a little "projection of the Vista shadow" here, since Vista was indeed supposed to be out a couple of years ago, and even though is in beta still has tons of basic issues to be ironed out.

I couldn't care less if Apple sells another iPod. I have 3, two that I bought in 2002 I was with the company and a $100 1GB flash iPod earlier this month.

I I don't think it works that way, anyway. Apple evolves its OS like Microsoft evloves Windows. It adds features periodically and changes things that they think need to be changed...
Since Apple and Google don't compete, and in fact are symbiotic -- cross-platform standards help Apple -- the rise of Google is a very good thing.
As for Microsoft still "ruling" everything, this would be relevant if they made compelling product for me. If they opened the xbox2 to hobby dev, that would in deed be compelling.
XP was pooe 5 years ago, and Micorsoft has yet to replace it.
LOL. Apple is hitting on all cylinders; I'm much more confident that Apple will deliver a better platform for my PC use over the remainder of this decade than Micorsoft (all Redmond has done this decade so far is chase Sun and Apple's tail lights). Cupertino has always been first to market with the best in the past, thanks to their more nimble corporate culture and willingness to break backwards compatibility when necessary, while Micorsoft is a prisoner of its own mbutt-market lowest-common-denominator success.
