It says that I'm not an arrogant SOB pretending to know everything there is to know about electronics and how to design everything under the sun. It means that I know that some people spent their life designing analog systems and I'm not about to cheapen or dismiss their talents by claiming I can do it as well as they can (note the fact that I used the term 'quality' in my earlier post - see above).

What's funny is that I could. I can see the schematic in my head and I know just what to do to make it a...

Irrelevant. Do they also claim to know VHDL, automotive embedded, telecom embedded, auto audio, etc? So would I be able to throw high power transmission line problems and get them to give me solid answers as well? How about sizing battery systems for UPSs? How about building the power supplies of UPSs? (No, not the one under your desk but the 500+KVA units backing up critical data centers).

That's all fine and dandy...however you still missed the point or are you suggesting that high quality audio is comparable to components for model railroading??

The problem is you don't know what EE's do and how vast the field is. You're missing the fact that some of these disciplines take a lot more effort and a lot more experience and talent than simply owning a degree.
