What's funny is that I could. I can see the schematic in my head and I know just what to do to make it a real high-end piece. It would be a tube design, of course. I'd use a really stiff power supply for B+ with huge filter caps bypbutted for audio. I'd use DC on the filiaments, and audio-grade polypropelene capacitors and metal film resistors throughout. The output transformer would be of a bifilar, ultralinear design and be way oversized for the power output of the unit (which would be about 150 watts RMS). I would use no overall feedback just local feedback and I would bias the output stage just onto the linear portion of the tube's characteristic curve. Finish it off with silver solder throughout, ceramic tube sockets, and point-to-point wiring. The amp would be a monobloc, of course, so the customer would need to buy two, and I'd sell 'em for $5000 apiece. I'd probably sell 20-30 pairs of them before I went broke. :-) -- George Graves The health of our society is a direct result of the men and women we choose to admire.
