My Ubuntu installation notes long! 3182First off my apologies if some of the points inline below have already been mentioned by someone else.
Windows, last I checked, did the same. The option *needs* to be somewhere, but yes, some help info would be appreciated. The average user that installs anything would know about it, albeit I am not sure how Mac OS X does it. This is what you get for having a canned distro. But since your buttessment is of a normal user on a normal machine, let's see... My Ubuntu installation notes long! 3183 Sandman You are enbreastled to your opinion but being that you appear to be new to Linux or at least new to Ubuntu... Both booting up and starting applications is done by starting the background stuff and allowing for mostly everything to load before something is actually displayed. The idea is that the application should be about ready to roll once you see it, no busy indicators and whatnot. My Ubuntu installation notes long You could add a "I don't know what 'parbreastioning' means" button which would bring the user to some documentation explaining... On the other hand, if you want to bleed your system dry you should use a source-based distro such as Gentoo. You will also be bowed to randomly on the street if people know you use Gentoo. kdm and gdm will NOT cause you to start up either Gnome or KDE. What you need to do is tell either one what to use somewhere, something shoudld say Session and give you some options My Ubuntu installation notes long! 3184 Sandman The ATI binary drivers do actually work, they just aren't as good as Nvidia's. As I recall, the option on Ubunut 6.06... Personally I don't like Ubuntu. I admit it has taken the Debian system and brought it closer to users by simplifying many things but it is far from being my distro of choice. But this is only since I am tech savvy and like to spend time setting up my Gentoo distro :) -- si vis pacem para bellum
