?!?!?!? You make no sense whatsoever. Sorry. Clse wha apps? I dont close any apps unless I am done with them about 1-100 of a second : alt-f9 in gnome. What could be easier? If you have THAT many open then, yes, maybe VDs are for you. But it is relevant to the suggestion that VDs are the new messiah that gives Linux the edge? What silly claims? That I think they're overrated and dont use them myself? I dont know - maybe I use a kbd faster than you, but it takes me about 1-10 of a second to alt-tab to the app I'm interested in. One window doesnt mean I have to close apps you know : in fact I can probably have *MORE* open because there isnt an overhead for handling extra real estate. I once tried VDs : e.g had a web browser on one, my gnus on another etc, but because they werent in front of me I kept unwittingly opening new versions - sure I could get more used to them but swapping between screens seemed a lot more hbuttle than just Z buffering between the apps on a single workspace.
