So far it seems to pbutt the tests that I can find and run on OS X. XSI extensions also seem to work fine.

Daniel Johnson The ones provided by Addison-Wesly on Unix programming. The book is very comprehensive. They don't call it Next Step for nothing. Next Step was in the past the next step up from...

There are a lot of X programs that needs the X server to run properly if you don't port the older programs to Quartz. Not all Unix programs have made the port, so X windows works just fine. To say that Unix software is little used on the Mac is just an absurd statement without any backing or evidence.

What tests have you run? snip I think it would be most remarkable were it otherwise; it would mean that Mac OS X...

Who cares? XP and DOS are unto themselves. We are talking about Unix and OS X.

They are? Better go check the header files then. They look the same under BSD as they look under Solaris.

Done that. Works as long as you don't need to interface with proprietary extensions from Apple.

That is due to Apple extensions of course. But you are derailing the topic on obvious proprietary APIs. I'm sticking with the UNIX topic here.

But it is just another Unix and acts like all other Unixes. Unix is the core of HOW the o-s operates and acts like.

I'm giving OS X as much Credit Debt as I can. It is for all purposes another UNIX that has a good security track record in comparison to Windows.
