That is when you don't provide the pbuttword. The virus can no longer propagate and hence doesn't meet the criteria of easily spreading to other computers as a virus. Hence, it's a phishing program. Do damage done.

On Fri, 12 May 2006 22:33:03 -0700, Snit You base that on the false buttumption that the UN Charter is a treaty, as it would pertain to consbreastutional law...

No, it is a phishing program. If it asks for your pbuttword, all you have to do is ' don't do it '.

And you are clearly clueless.

Guffaw!!! Hopefully the spanking won't hurt too much, oh-clueless one.

Guffaw!!! Tell that to many other Unix admins. It is you that is clueless.

Sane people today do not trust strangers.

How would you know that they didn't change anything? NT is far removed from VMS. VMS works very well, NT does not. Do you know that NT for a while was for sale to run on Alphas? Well, if you had a choice of Tru-64 UNIX, VMS, or NT, just about everyone ignored NT. NT just couldn't compete against a real o-s.

Then prove it. From what I've read in the Seattle Times, Jim Allchin did say this. Whether Gates took his suggestions is another matter. If Vista isn't rewritten, then Vista is just XP with new lipstick on it. Wear your Vista Lipstick©.

You mean M$ monopoly.

No, just sane not to buy into a POS.

And you are still clueless as ever. Your handwaving about Unix will get a virus hasn't happened yet. Unix has been around for a very long time now, and still don't see this mythical problem you keep talking about. Yet a virus needs to spread from computer to computer to be effective. Every Unix box will be somewhat different in its set up and most of the time the virus stops there and can not go further.

Daniel Johnson Nope. Just pointing out your cluelessness about viruses. Only after it asked the user for the admin pbuttword. That puts it in the clbutt...

So, einstein, where are the Unix viruses??

Sad but true. Now, if the same bunch were to move to Macs, the malware problems and viruses that they had experienced on Windows would go away. It is one reason I moved my wife from a Wintel to a Mac. She no longer has any of these problems.

Guffaw!!! No, before I spent $2100 on a win95 HP back in 96. No I only spent $1295 on an iMac G5 that is 100x the machine that the HP was.

Nah... investing in M$ will relieve any great wads of cash. A yearly support contract called updating your virus scanners and malware removal tools, and adware removal tools, PLUS for the your Wintel box.

snip- explanation of fork()'s error reporting issue I do not know who you are quoting below. This seems to be someone who has internalized the way Unix...

Snit i did, and the valid criticism is about the point i had above about signing statements (did you read the links? if so, why do you not seem to know that...

Yes, and it was all shot down in another newsgroup too. I didn't put your name or this newsgroup up tho... just the BS.

Nah... you'd never understand.

Yeup. They're still laughing at you too. But they don't know who you are.

Guffaw!!! And you are still this clueless?

My My.

Who cares now? All computers have MMUs now.

You still seem to be hung up on fork(). There are also threads to handle the more modern problems. And the POSIX implementation of threads on Unix seems to be a bit better one that what windows implements. But then, that's M$ for ya... 'adequate' is considered close enough for government work.
