OT: This Week In Voting Machine Security 3426
OT: This Week In Voting Machine Security 3427 The registering is done by a number of different enbreasties. Both parties can and so send out people who can register voters. Some of the non-partisan groups also do that (My Mom... Each consbreastuency (returning one member of parliament) will have 60k to 80k electors. There are 650 seats but each is handled independently by each local authority (District Council, usually). Always counted on the night after polls close and under the scrutiny of party workers. I have been present on such occasions to watch the counting staff (who also work for the local authority). I look out for my party's interests and there are those from other parties who do likewise. When everyone is satisfied the Returning Officer announces the result for that consbreastuency. What you should do in a place like Florida then is that in each local area the result should be publicly announced, not simply pbutted anonymously upwards. That way, with enough press present, it will make it a lot harder to fiddle the grand total. This stuff is too important to be done in the hole-in-the-corner manner which appears to outside observers to be the case at present in the US. It would also answer the critics such as Arab dictators and others who might say as it might be: "You want us to adopt your democratic process? Sure, right." -- tim
