If the corporations were to take the water cooled variety of nuclear reactors, along with an honest inspection system, there shouldn't be a problem operating these reactors. What scares people the most is that old movie 'The China Syndrome'. Won't happen in a water cooled reactor. When the water gets too hot, the neutron density drops and so does the fission. When the water gets cooler the neutron density increases and fission goes up. Sort of a natural self controlled fission process, as long as the amount of exposed fuel rods are controlled. The only remaining problem, which is what really scares the environmentalists, is radioactive waste disposal and where to put it. Even this has run into problems if the wrong containers aren't stored properly, but it can be done and has been done. The real problem happens to be inside "cheap poo" corporate boardrooms on how to boost profits. This causes shortcuts to be made and accidents to occur. I feel that nuclear power production should be taken out of the hands of the private sector and soley controlled by a Federal agency.
