There isn't anything we can do about it. Doesn't mean we CAN'T try, we probably just WON'T try.

I doubt seriously that we could do that in 10 years, even with it as THE major national effort. Maybe 30 or 50 years, not 10. It would be worth doing, but its not going to be done. Humans are far too short-sighted for that kind of a committment. We would have to build thousands of breeder reactors to replace the oil and coal fired power plants and to provide enough electricity to completely replace all of the cars on the roads with electric or hydrogen fuel cell cars, and who buys these expensive vehicles for the very poor? What do you do about those who refuse to give up their gasoline engined vehicles? How do you force oil companies to stop selling gasoline and fuel oil? Who will pay to replace everyone's heating system with an electric heat pump? No, this is liberal pie-in-the-sky pollyannaism. Its not going to happen in my lifetime, and I fear that before the next 50 years are up, we'll be beyond the point of no return - buttuming, of course, that the scientists are right and global warming is a man made or a man exacerbated phenomenon.
