Given that it allows you to do everything as efficiently, why shouldn't an OS be as simplistic as possible? Do you have a burning need to feel l33t?

Actually -- although over-simplified, it is true.

The whole history of computers has been one of making them easier and easier to use. And Apple in particular used to have strong human interface guidelines that would have made how they've implemented many recent features anathema to those guidelines.

Making features that aren't easily discoverable is *dumb*. Look at Spotlight: although there is lots to complain about in its UI implementation, at least there is something that one can click on that will allow you to discover that the feature *exists*. Anything function that you expect people to use all the time, should have a place of similar prominence.

Yes: people can read the "New Features" section in the manual, but if you've really done your job right as a software manufacturer, they should have to; not for the every day, all the time things.
