Open Source issues the reason for VistaOffice delay

You decide, from Playfuls.com

"You probably know already that Microsoft decided to offer support for the Open XML-ODF file translation. But what are the reasons for this sudden shift in MicrosoftÕs vision?

First thingÕs first: the Open Office format (ODF) is a totally free alternative to MicrosoftÕs Office suite, which is of course proprietary software and you have to pay for it. The main supporters for the ODF are Sun Microsystems, IBM and Novell, and a bunch of other smaller companies, organizations and insbreastutions all over the world.

Why would Microsoft want to offer interoperability with the format that was designed and destined to compete with MicrosoftÕs office products? Well, probably because the enemy that you cannot defeat must become your friend."
