Read a rumor that DTrace will be in OS X Leopard. 3213Karen Hill Ugh, why won't the damn thing just stay down? How many times does it have to get end before the developers realize that no one gives a damn anymore? The BSDs are already relegated mainly to proxy servers and routers-firewalls. Then again, you also seem to imply that Solaris and OS X qualify as true BSDs... Read a rumor that DTrace will be in OS X Leopard. 3215 Snit In this context, it was an affirmation of the statement made--that Apple doesn't provide as many options... Who defines this standard, and why on earth should I have to listen to standard, then why shouldn't I be able to use it? I honestly dislike the (true) BSDs that I've made use of. I don't like the community, I don't like the tools, and I don't like the conventions. It really depends on the standards. Everything adhering to archaic Unix standards seems a bit silly. Doesn't seem to be a huge issue in practice. Don't Upgrade The Kernel Without Testing. I would say the same thing for any operating system, and perhaps extend that to "Don't Upgrade Anything Without Testing", if you are working on a production machine. Read a rumor that DTrace will be in OS X Leopard. 3214 Snit Maybe you *can* learn, after all. Oops, there we go again. Dropping into these unfounded buttertions. This sort of thing can *easily* be demonstrated poo. It should be clearly outlined... Faster than what? Nonexistent? Who are these knowledgeable users that are switching in droves from GNU-Linux to one of the BSDs? AFAIK, most of OS X's growth is from dissatisfied Windows users, and the BSDs have been losing market share to GNU-Linux for awhile. Solaris 10 has generated some interest, but most of the users I've talked to still run GNU-Linux on their desktop-development boxes. Uhh, not even close to accurate. It will be in Solaris 10, FreeBSD existence. Dtrace has only been out for a year anyway. What makes you think that it (or something like it) won't eventually be ported to GNU-Linux.
