Running Windows apps on OS X with no copy of XP &A#JD1Tg!d8
These days anyone who learns software development is taught all the nightmare stories about dealing with users. They tell you what they want, then they change their mind after the product is already under development. Then it turns out what they wanted is not what they said they wanted, but they blame it on the developer for not hearing what they meant when they said what they wanted. Then they come up with new features they need, as the deadline for the product grows closer. Then they freak out when the new features push back the completion date. Then they test the program and tell the developer that the program forces the secretary to push too many keys, and she broke a nail, can you fix it. On and on until you want to get a gun. In other words, Cringely has NOT been trained as a developer and is speaking from a naive point of view. NONETHELESS! Darwine is a real project. It uses real Windows APIs. (But not all of them! Which means only certain programs are going to work!) And it will allow users to forego buying Windows for certain applications. And theoretically the speed these apps run at will be pretty good. Why do you suppose that NDT stands for "National Debate *Tournament*", then, if... That is kewl. -- Fortune Magazine, 11-29-05: What's your computer setup today? Frederick Brooks: I happily use a Macintosh. It's not been equalled for ease of use, and I want my computer to be a tool, not a challenge. Frederick Brooks is the author of 'The Mythical Man Month'. He spearheaded the movement to modernize computer software engineering in 1975
