Shake 4.1, enormous price cut. 2902Alan Baker You'd like me to let you off the hook, eh? You're really sweating now, as much of your claims depend on this. Or they can just buy Nuke instead, and keep using the computers they already have. Replacing all their old computers will not cost them less money. More so if they have to replace other programs that don't have Mac versions. Because users want support and upgrades. Those won't even be available for Shake 4.1 in a couple of years, just as they're no longer available for Windows-Irix-Linux users. Shake 4.1, enormous price cut. 2903 Nope. None of my claims depend on this. Please feel free to argue otherwise... Or as I've shown in another post, just buy Shake for Linux, which Apple still sells. And they... No it's not. First of all "Microsoft's ever increasing hardware requirements" are a Mac Advocate fabrication, and secondly, MS has an excellent reputation and history for backwards compatibilty and legacy support. Sure, that's why Shake 4.1 is the last release of Shake. Gaffaw! Again, software, like anything else, is sold for whatever the market will bear. The maker's development-production costs are besides the point. If it's worth $0.50 to its market, it sells for $0.50, no matter if it cost 5 million to develop it. If it's worth $5 million to the people who buy it, it doesn't matter it only cost $0.50 to develop it, it sells for $ 5M. Welcome to the real world, Alan. Yep. Next Pro app 2904 BBEdit is also my weapon of choice for Rails development. I tried to like TextMate, which seems to be the 'in' editor in the Rails... LOL You're going to put a put a puny Mac up against a quarter of a million dollar (or more) SGI workstation? You're a funny, funny guy... You ought to check the prices at the Apple store, BTW. The pro video card you would need adds another $1600 to that $3500 Mac you're quoting, and that doesn't come anywhere near the video cards that were available for PCs either 4.5 years ago or since then. Tacit agreement. Next Pro app 2905 I've also tried switching, but the unix filter support, glossaries, applescript support and all nifty editing functions, I've stayed with BBEdit, even if it lacks... LOL
