Should I go Mac or PC. Neither!! 2797On Sat, 24 Jun 2006 21:10:43 +0000, philicorda JACK, Audacity and Ardour as well as the Jack mastering plugin (jammin I believe)and so forth all look great on paper. The problem is that when all these pieces of the puzzle are added up, the total is not the sum of the parts. Making it work is a nightmare. Getting clients to believe in the system is even worse.
Wrong. Now they are complaining as to why mp3 players, cd burner codecs, DVD codecs and so forth aren't installed by default with Linux. See any of the SUSE groups for details. Linux is a mess as a desktop system. It looks great on paper. Now try and make it work. How much is your time worth? You could spend 6 months trying to make Linux do what Windows and a few commercial applications can do out of the box. Should I go Mac or PC. Neither!! 2798 Peter Kšhlmann Drones? We are constantly trying new software, new hardware and so forth. In fact many of us get labled "gear slutz" because of it. I... For me, $5k spent on software paid for itself in 2 months of gigs. If I were running Linux I wouldn't have any gigs so the free software wouldn't have gained me a thing. Let's put it this way, if you were a concert pianist and you had a choice between a studio that had a 1918 Steinway or a 2006 Kimball piano which would you choose? Linux is the Kimball.
