If you had selected january of 2000 as your comparison point you'd have an entirely different outcome. Or better yet, the date computer god Steve Jobs took hold of the company. If Sun Microsystems wanted to reward shareholders they could. They could buy back stock whatever. They don't care. There was a time, say 1995, where it seemed like Sun did care. But shareholders got wise when executives such as Ed Zander cashed out their options and made hundreds of millions. After that Sun didn't have any money for R&D. Now a days key executives can't figure out where to take the company - aside from being a helper company to Google and eBay. Their OS has sold so poorly that they've encouraged their customers to use RedHat Linux. Go figure. I'm hoping the Apple licenses some of Sun's hard drive technology, helps give Sun a vision, and helps Apple improve big time over Microsoft. And I'm hoping Sun stops suing people.
