The Big Mac Hoax. aka OS X is a dog
I am a former Linux user who was conned into buying a MacBook with claims that it was an "excellently designed Unix". Yeah, my butt. This machine is pitiful! Little better than a fancy-looking $1300 doorstop. Right now the only applications I'm running are the finder, the dashboard, the activity monitor, and the terminal, where I'm typing this. I'm looking at the Activity Monitor right now. Here are the memory numbers: Used: 339 MB Free: 154 MB By far the bulk of the used (around 0.2 GB) is under the "wired" heading. About 0.1 GB is active, and the rest is "inactive". This is *pathetic*!!! This a disgustingly inefficient use of memory! What justification is there for having these "housekeeping" applications hog 2-3 of the available memory, mostly as "wired"??? The Big Mac Hoax. aka OS X is a dog 392 That's really funny. "Maximize its profit". Adding optional Apple memory INCREASES Apple's profit, not LOWERS it. Having... No wonder applications run so slowly. If Safari and iTunes are running (plus the finder and the dashboard), the free memory drops to almost zero, and every GUI operation (e.g. moving a window, selecting a new tab, clicking a menu item) takes several seconds! There is no justification for this poo. Mac's reputation for excellence is the biggest hoax ever... b
