The Need for "Single Window Mode" 3240
Yeah, you can't do that on your desk either, unless you're some kind of ambidextrous freak or something. That doesn't mean spacial task organization isn't useful. Yes, but a 24" screen has 75% more real estate. It makes a pretty big difference. But not *that* big. I've seen lists of screen resolutions vs. web browser sizes, and you notice something rather quickly. Up to about 1280x1024, people with larger screens make their web browser windows larger. After than point, browser window size stays relatively unchanged as screen sizes increase, because you just don't *need* more than that. The same is true with many other apps. I believe it was actually a Microsoft study, using standard Windows apps on some crazy ultra-wide wrap-around screen. (I have a visual memory of something along those lines, anyway.) Obviously you generally *don't* want a single app window to be 4 ft. wide. Hey, don't look at me. Sandman has multiple 30" screens. The Need for "Single Window Mode" 3241 It is not entirely clear to me why it IS useful, however. Still, what maximize gives... Disagree. They're more flexible, and, if you know the keyboard shortcuts, faster. But with the new single-window OS X model, there's not so much distinction between the app and the window. "Clutter" is contextual, though. Having that word processing document you wrote about widget production up on the screen while you're shopping on eBay is clutter. Having it up on the screen while you're writing an e-mail summary of it is probably not. -- "Those who enter the country illegally violate the law." -- George W. Bush in Tucson, Ariz., Nov. 28, 2005
