The Need for "Single Window Mode" 3248
snip Well, even small children can track moving objects though space and such. Anyway, it doesn't really matter whether it's instinctive or early developmental. The point is, everyone has it. I still don't understand this claim. What useful things can you do on your physical desktop that you can't do on your virtual one, as a result of the fact that the former exists in 3D space? Err? I'd argue spacial organization on current desktops is hard because of the limited amount of space, not because there's too much space between objects. The Need for "Single Window Mode" 3249 ZnU If it's instinctual, it means we probably have some sort of biological 'hardware acceleration... As long as humans are oily sacks of liquid, touch-screens have some fundamental problems. There's no way to attach significant numbers of actions to objects without resorting to indirect manipulation -- for instance, where you select an object and then choose an action from a menu. If you did emulate a few more laws of physics, you fix this. -- "Those who enter the country illegally violate the law." -- George W. Bush in Tucson, Ariz., Nov. 28, 2005
