The Windows "software advantage" 69The Windows "software advantage" 70 Um. Vista has basically nothing new. It's going to change the equation for the end-user very little... Mike yup. You're reduced over arguing over $83. Let's RUUUMBLE! Step by step it has been trailing off ... first PCI, then USB, then 802.11, Macs became bog-standard x86 PCs part-by-part. Still, Apple was first to market with innovative CoreDuo products like the iMac and Mini. Dell certainly makes nothing that compares to the iMac. Apple's laptop story is less advantageous; it's CoreDuos are bracketed all over the place by offerings from Acer, Sony, etc. But what the debate is now is how well OS X stacks up against Vista. To be honest, I don't know how well Apple will survive this over the remainder of this decade. My development work now has very little to do with Apple-proprietary API; I use OS X for its superior, hbuttle-free UNIX layer, slick UI capabilities, and nice suite of utilities and superior applications. Most Windows apps strike me as having been written by a highschooler with a SAMS book on loan from the library, but perhaps .net and Vista will change this.
