Trip to the Apple store today... 2863Lefty Bigfoot center" where they could try out various educational breastles on a Yes, there's an Apple store in my city and it's the same here. In fact, my own 3 children (oldest 7) have a ball in the Apple store. They sit at the childrens' table and play games, they run up and down the aisles, etc. They think it's a treat to go, and sometimes suggest that we go, just for fun. This doesn't happen by accident, and Apple deserves some credit for it. By contrast, there is no store in my city where PCs are sold that my children like going to. Trip to the Apple store today... 33HumfHSaKlA~jG9gd Addle Jones wrote I doubt I'll ever return. It seems pretty pointless. Far easier to just order from the web... Let me tell you something you may already know...WinTel is dead Umm I have a copy of Windows 1.00 and the only usable thing in it was the calulator. GEM thrashed it badly. A PC that could run Windows at the time ran about 7500.00 USD... Another observation along these lines ... for my kids, my iMac is the fun computer in the house. Mind you, I'm not a gamer. As far as I know, the only game on my iMac is a backgammon game that was pre-installed. They like the built-in camera, they like the voice recognition and text-to-speech, they like the visual effects, etc. Now, we've had just about every kind of computer and OS in our house, so it's not like the iMac lacks compebreastion. As for myself, I wouldn't say a trip to the Apple store is the high point of my week, but it has some things going for it. For one, they have workshops on the Pro apps, among other things. I've gone to the Logic Pro ones. The people running them are musicians who really know the program. Also, the salespeople I've dealt with are miles more sophisticated than any PC salespeople I've dealt with. Many of them are part timers who have interesting full time jobs. One is a sys admin at a local college. Another is a programmer. On the other hand, I went to the "Genius Bar" once. The guy I talked to fit a, let's say, rather inclusion definition of "genius." despite claims I've heard that they also run hot. Of My 20" Intel iMac is never hot. In fact, the only places where I feel any heat at all are a vent along the top back and the lcd screen, neither of which is hot. It's also almost completely silent. So far, I've had no problems with it of any kind at all.
