To answer your question, no, I do not want them to be everywhere. In fact, given their propensity for shooting innocent bystanders more often than criminals, the LAST thing I would want to do is call 911.
What I would likely do is settle the issue myself, then clear out myself and my family to a remote location, and then call them in to pick up the bodies. If they want to interview me, I'll meet them in a neutral location where they won't feel the need to shoot at anything that moves. 24 year old children with guns that can't hit the broad side of a barn but think they're Rambo scare the crap out of me, especially when my family is nearby.

Look at the per capita crime rates in any time period, and any population density comparing those areas with restrictive gun control laws and more 'libertarian' gun control laws. Find a verifiable example of the former having a lower crime rate than the latter. Good luck.

Look at all the people begging for the government to do something during the sniper deal a few years back. 100 years ago, perhaps even 50, the entire male population of several states would have turned out with hunting rifles and went after him, instead of hiding in their houses and taking their kids out of school.
