What has Apple got to match this PC 2608
Nope. Nope. Not in a live production and live streaming context. Yup. This is a product for doing live work. It is essentially a digital version of a video mixing board. Yes, it has...

Okay I'll try clearing up some of this since I actually USE a Tricaster

It is a Windows PC running Windows XP Service Pack 2 and a SOFTWARE program called TriCaster. It's built inside a Shuttle XPC case with standard Shuttle mainboard, etc, along with video and audio input-output cards added and the ports arranged nicely on the front panel.

Windows has been trimmed down of everything you don't need to use TriCaster and buttociated functions + Internet Explorer to download updates. It's still MOST DEFINITELY Windows tho just with a lot of the fat trimmed.

Edwin Well, since the Maccies here have nothing to counter me with but sour grapes, I'll have to provide the counter answer myself. Sheesh! "Union 2.0 - Now Available for Mac and Windows XP Union transforms...

Honestly, I see no reason "Tricaster" couldn't be an expansion card and software program for any Windows PC. But then they couldn't charge as much. In theory the closed platform should improve stability, but it does crash sometimes LOL.

It's NOT video editing. It's LIVE PRODUCTION. I.e. a TV station remote truck. Our church uses it for projection.

So I'd say it's fair to ask what there is for Apple and the answer is - NOTHING like it. And that's OK - Apple doesn't need to be everything. Not being a specialized live video production system DOES NOT mean it's not the best desktop computer.

Alan Baker So Final Cut Pro does none of these things: Live Production Live Internet streaming Professional breastling Video Capture Network Input Media Editing...

Mac support? There's a program called iVGA client that streams screen snapshots over your network to the Tricaster. This IS NOT OUT FOR MAC YET (though I have a beta copy for Tricaster and a copy comes with the newest Tricaster Pro). I haven't used it yet - WE JUST got our Tricaster and I just got the software tonight (I was searching for Tricaster). It's a PowerPC program but it at least starts on my Macbook Pro - hopefully it works. It makes the Mac or PC it's running on a video source on the Tricaster.

Conclusion -

The OP is right. This is one application where the best solution is on Windows. Nothing else compares to Tricaster at it's price and it's a VERY nice solution. WOW. It's great for live production environments with a limited number of sources (3 cameras, hence TRI) - churches, TV trucks, etc.

On the other hand, what has Windows to compare with Final Cut Pro. The BEST solution for recorded video non-linear editing. We use a Tricaster and a Macbook Pro with Final Cut Pro. Both are good solutions and there should be no fighting over this.

Finally - on the desktop, for most users, Macs are better :)
