Both products can capture video from multiple sources, save it to disk, mix them, and edit them, and store the final product. That puts them in the same market, your false analogy about clocks and calendars notwithstanding.

Yet another false analogy. FCP and TriCaster are both meant for video mixing and editing. They're not as far apart as a sports car and a mining dump truck.

Some of the purposes are the same.

It is not limited to mixing live video. It can use recorded media.

TriCaster can be used for the same purpose.
